All about the money
This weekend we went and purchased all the ceiling tiles and CeilingMAX grid for the basement. Total cost was about $800. I calculated that we needed 109 2x2 tiles. I hope I overestimated and can take some back. They were towards the low end at $1.94 each. Of course, that was Saturday and on Sunday I saw that they went on sale. They'll give me some money back though.
I also decided to buy beadboard for the wainscoting. We went pretty cheap here as it is only the basement. 10 sheets of 32" x 48" at $7.77 each.
I'm still not sure which I want to do first. I think the wainscoting I would prefer to get out of the way before I start on the ceiling.

The ceiling will be a lot harder than the wainscoting. I'd probably do the wainscoting first also. Sounds like the basement is getting real close to done.

feels close but when I think about how much time it's going to take to do the ceiling and the trim work I don't feel quite as good.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I did some trim work and it takes forever and then after doing it awhile I got rummy and started cutting angles the wrong way.
